First Blush

How to keep a warm and sunny complexion in chilly weather...

blushDon’t let winter drag you into the “coldrums”. Adding a little boost of color to your complexion can impart a fresh, lively appearance, even if you feel like hibernating. Here are some quick tricks to help you put your best face forward?

Blush and bronzer are underestimated mood-stabilizers. The smallest hint of tint, and you can go from drab to fab in two seconds. Found in cream, powder and liquid formulas, they’re available in a range of shades from just-pinched pink to St. Tropez sun goddess. And most are already in purse-friendly packages, so you can blush on the run.

When applying a powder blush, lightly tap a densely-bristled brush into the color and give it a quick tap to knock off any excess. Apply in a gentle circular motion, starting at the cheekbone near the outer corner of the eye, and blend down toward the apple of your cheek, then sweep up again towards the temple. Your overall shape should be a subtle “V”. When using a cream or liquid formula, tap the product with your finger, apply by patting onto your cheekbones and apples, and thoroughly blend.

To use a powder bronzer, grab pigment with a brush and tap off the excess. Apply with a light touch wherever the sun would naturally hit your face—cheekbones, bridge of nose and forehead. To use a cream bronzer, apply it to the same areas as a powder bronzer, but blend it throughly with clean fingers before adding a translucent powder to set it.
