Spring is just around the corner—a very colorful corner. The color blocking that’s all the rage for Mom is hot for juniors and tots, too. Citrus hues like bright lemon and lime, pair with Day-Glo blue and hot pink. And on her feet? You might think that with all the color on top that you’d go neutral with the shoes, but don’t. It’s kids fashion, be bold, have fun! Want more fun? OK, how about fancy dresses showing up everywhere? That’s right—no more waiting for a special occasion.
Throw an unbuttoned button-front shirt over an Anglophilic tee and he’ll be embracing two of the season’s biggest trends: Everything English (call it a wedding leftover) and layering (call it practical for spring). Don’t forget his feet. Rain boots will replace heavy snow boots, and shoes will still need to be fabricated out of more water-resistant materials like leather, treated suede, or similar synthetics. Most early spring days will still be a little chilly and wet for canvas, but drier days are coming—we swear!
The variable weather of fall and spring means layering is the smart choice for boys and girls. This spring, you’ll want to pile on lightweight fabrics that let you go from indoor story time to hanging from the monkey bars. Think slub cotton, merino wool and, of course, jersey. And for outerwear—water-resistant synthetics are always a good idea.
There’s something especially fresh about the kids’ shedding their heavy layers and springing around in new, bright togs. That’s going to be very true this year with happy hues and cool duds. Time to hit the mall and have some fun.
